Jumuiya Ya Afrika Mashariki Open Chess Tournament 2nd Edition, will run from Saturday 21st September 2024 to Sunday 22nd September 2024. The Fide Rated Chess Tournament is Organized by the Gift of Chess Organization, in Kenya.

- ELITES(Swiss,5 Rounds,90+0).
- Under 1700(Swiss,6 Rounds,60+3).
- Under 1400 & 12 Yrs below(Swiss,6 Rounds,60+3).

The organizers reserve the right to change the schedule of the tournament.

These individual Swiss tournaments will be FIDE rated.

Latest FIDE Laws of Chess apply.

The Elite section will be played over 5 rounds and the time control will be 90 minutes flat per player.

The sections Under 1700 & Under 1400 & U12Yrs will be played over 6 rounds and the time control will be 60 minutes + 3 seconds increments from the first move.

The Under 1400(Unrated) & U12Yrs is an unrated Section.

Appeals should be submitted to the Chief Arbiter within 30 minutes after the end of the round in question, with a deposit of ksh.1500. The deposit is refundable only if the appeal is successful.

Tiebreaks: Direct Encounter, Greater Number of Victories, Bucholz, Sonneborn-Berger

Spectators are not allowed in the playing halls once the round starts. Players who have finished playing are considered as spectators.

Players are eligible for only one prize. If they qualify for more than one prize, the other prize will be given to the next best player in that prize category.

Prize funds will be shared equally amongst players with the same number of points (Hort system).

All prizes are guaranteed.
In case of two or more players finishing with the same number of points, the order will be determined by application of the following tie-breaking procedures in sequence, proceeding from (a) to (b) to (c) to (d) to the extent required:
a) Direct Encounter
b) Buchholz cut-1, the highest number wins;
c) Buchholz, the highest number wins;
d) Number of wins, the highest number wins.
In un-played games, the following criteria will be applied:
a) Buchholz cut-1, the highest number wins;
b) Buchholz, the highest number wins;
c) Number of wins, the highest number wins.
